The “D” signifies personal development and this is one area that drives much of my focus and passion. I have had the privilege of working with several dynamic companies across a breadth of industries including, the movie industry, network television, real estate, financial risk management, the importation and distribution of consumer goods and banking. Furthermore, I have been blessed with some excellent mentors in many of these companies that taught me how to be a more effective business leader. Nevertheless, I have continuously sought out additional ways to advance my capabilities each time I reach a plateau so, that I can further improve my skill sets and bring more value to the companies and teams of people I serve.

In addition to the mentors from my former companies, I have had the privilege of training with some incredible business and leadership coaches including, Dave Blanchard, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of The Og Mandino Leadership Institute and Karl Graf, Chief Executive Officer of Trustpoint Management Group. The personal investments I have made, both in time and money, working with Mr. Blanchard and Mr. Graf has always challenged me to up my own professional game in working with people and leading teams. If I was to sum up my intentional purpose in training with high-caliber individuals such as these, it can be stated in my personal mission statement: I continue seeking new ways to elevate myself so, that I can become a better business leader, a better mentor and help elevate those around me. If we all can elevate ourselves personally and professionally together, we become a better team together.

My pursuits in development are not simply focused within professional circles though. Most recently, I was inspired by the former leaders of my son’s Cub Scout Pack who introduced me to the Wood Badge Adult Leadership Training course, created by the Boy Scouts of America, and I have since taken on a leadership position as Assistant Cub Master. Perhaps one of the most impactful insights I have gleaned from all of my training to date, is that a position of leadership is not so much about being in a position of power, but being in a position of service to others to help them become more effective in their professional pursuits, and to support the greater vision of a company or, an organization.

That is the kind of leadership I strive to create every day.

"Be so busy improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others."
